Hawaii Two Futures Coalition is an effort by the Sierra Club, Surfrider, Livable Communities Hawaii and I.D.E.A.S to raise awareness about the urgent need to transition Hawaii to a clean energy future and increase transparency about the decisions being made now that will determine our progress towards that future.
Hawaii Authority for Rapid Transit (HART) will show how rail will allow 40,000 fewer vehicles on the road each weekday. This would reduces our carbon footprint and our dependence on imported fossil fuel. HART wants to create an electrically powered system that will make the most of renewable energy sources. HART is planning on showing how it plans on integrating photovoltaic panels into the rail system. HART will show how transit-oriented development encourages density in the urban core, preserving rural portions of our island.
